Once again, just like the case with the new Google logo, I find myself thinking the new branding for a service is so-so, and that the real star of the show is the animation that comes with the unveiling announcement. The new “O” for the Opera browser is slick and nice, with a cute twist a 3D ring. The header animation, on the launch post in Opera’s blog, that represents the evolution of the logo throughout the years, has much more charm and more magic than the logo itself. I wish all logos could be animated in some sort, that will make them much more appealing to look at and memorable.
As stated in their official blog, the Opera team created the logo in house, with the assistance of 2 other companies, for the creative strategy and visual identity. The new O is meant to be a portal for new things from Opera, more content, more products, more of everything. The process took about a year, from planning to completion.
