It’s been a few hours since Google released their new logo to the world. OK. I get it. They needed to change that old fashion logo for a long time, and level up with all the rest of the world. I can see nothing new in the new design, just another well balanced, by the book logo. Good for them. I read what the Google design team wrote in their blog, and I can see where they are coming from, and the need for the new design. Everything is well thought of, and nicely explained, good work, you can pat yourself on the shoulder for doing the a good thing. I personally think something is a bit off, on that capital G in the full name, but that’s just me, I guess they did their homework, and the outcome is the best solution they could produce. Now don’t get me wrong, it’s not that I hate Google’s new logo, its just that it is just there, nothing new under the sun, just… There.
Now what I am really excited about is not the new logo, its the amazingly crafted dancing dots, both in the concept and the animation. In my humble opinion, these dancing dots, are the real core upgrade, to this last re-branding move by Google. It is true that they could not stand alone on their own, without the new logo, but they are so much better thought of and produced than the actual logo, that it feels like they are much more mature in concept and design then the logo itself.
Google’s dancing dots are the perfect evolution, to the idea of material design google introduced a few months ago. The playfulness and the motion inside them is perfect. The timing is just right, the movements convey the desired state and transitions. And best of all, you can really feel the emotion in them, they transform your consciousness to the desired state in regards to the flow you are in.
I would love to shake the hand of the person that was responsible for that amazing work. Please, someone, introduce him to me, I want to put credit where credit is due.
