Nicolas Delort is a Canadian and French illustrator who lives in Paris. His preferred medium of work is the scratch board and black inks. Nicolas’s scratch board illustrations are so packed with details that you feel like you can stare at them for hours, and keep on finding new stuff all the time. When working on his illustrations, Nicolas works with a lot of reference images, however, he doesn’t use them from the start. He only looks at them once his initial sketch is set, and then he looks at the reference images to fix what he got wrong, that way he doesn’t feel like his creation got “polluted”. You have to admire the level of patience and perseverance that goes into his work.
You can check out his site or tumblr page for more samples of his creations.
